Independent software engineer

Software, built end to end.

I'm Sunny, an independent engineer for startups and businesses. I design, build and ship complete products, from idea to production.

Sunny Singh

6+ years

Building production software professionally since February 2020.

2 companies

Served as founding engineer and lead engineer, owning the stack from day one.

Full stack

Product, frontend, backend, APIs and cloud infrastructure.

What I do

Product development, end to end

From a rough spec to a live product. I handle architecture, frontend, backend, deployment and everything in between, so one person is accountable for the whole thing.

Backend & APIs

Data models, APIs, background jobs and third-party integrations built to hold up in production.

Web applications

Fast, accessible interfaces and internal tools built with modern JavaScript frameworks.

Technical leadership

Founding-engineer support for early teams: stack decisions, code review, hiring help and roadmap scoping.

Background

I started building software professionally in February 2020 and have worked across the whole stack ever since.

I've been the founding engineer and the lead engineer at two companies, responsible for architecture, delivery and engineering practices from the ground up. Today I run an independent practice and work directly with clients who want one accountable engineer instead of an agency.

Most of my work is in TypeScript, React and Next.js, and much of it has been e-commerce: storefronts, carts and discount rules.

One accountable engineer
You talk to the person writing the code. No account managers, no handoffs.
Written scope before work starts
A clear agreement on deliverables, timeline and cost.
Regular progress updates
Working builds and short written updates at a cadence we agree on.
You own everything
Code, infrastructure accounts and documentation are handed over in full.

How a project runs

  1. Talk

A short call to understand the problem, the users and the constraints.

  2. Scope

A written proposal with deliverables, timeline and a fixed price or monthly rate.

  3. Build

Work ships in small increments you can review and test along the way.

  4. Hand over

Deployment, documentation and a walkthrough so your team can run it.

Projects are billed per milestone or as a monthly retainer, with an invoice for every payment.
